Issue Description
Scattered light: In Sector 1, the main stray light features to be aware of are:

There is an oscillation in the background with a period of 1 day caused by the rotation of the Earth.

The Moon gets quite close to the FOV of Camera 1 at the end of the sector. On the last day of observations, the angle between the Moon and the boresight of Camera 1 is <30◦ , which causes a the large spike.

Mars: Mars was near opposition during Sector 1 and landed in the field-of-view of Camera 1 for ∼2 days at the beginning of observations. Specifically, it is in Camera 1, CCD 4, output channel D, and visual inspection of the FFIs and target pixel files shows an extremely bright object with excess charge spread across the pixels in this output channel.

As a consequence, photometry is unreliable in this section of the CCD in the first ∼510 cadences of the sector. See pgs. 7 and 8 of the DRN for more information.
Timing precision and accuracy: Due to an error in the spacecraft clock kernel, the two-minute cadence durations vary by ∼0.51 msec and the FFI durations vary by ∼7.8 msec. The changes in the durations are discontinuous and occur at reference points used to interpolate the conversion from space- craft time to TJD. However, these errors are well within TESS’s 1 second timing accuracy requirement.

Reprocessing Information: DRN42

During TESS’s primary mission several updates were made to various instrument models, algorithms, and pipeline parameters. Below we list what was updated and applied when reprocessing sectors 1-13. Please see DRN42 for a more comprehensive explanation of each update.
Update Description
Instrument models updated: Electronics model Reference Flux, PRF, and Linearity
Calibration Pipeline Module updates: The 1D bias estimate is now split into two components, a time-dependent scalar correction and a static row-dependent correction. The first two overclock rows were also removed. The propagation of the uncertainty from the 2D bias model was changed. It is a static term and no longer applied to pixel data.
Pre-Search Data Conditioning Pipeline Module updates: The parameters to calibrate the PDC goodness metrics were finalized.
Transiting Planet Search Pipeline Module updates: An initial run of TPS is now used to identify problematic epochs that are assigned “deemphasis weights” in a second and final run of TPS.
Compute Optimal Aperture Pipeline Module updates: The photometric apertures for stars with Tmag less than 11 were slightly increased.
Photometric Analysis Pipeline Module updates: The sky background estimate was modified. A scalar offset is now applied that forces the dimmest background-corrected pixels to values near zero, if those pixels were significantly negative.
TESS Input Catalog update: Targets were reprocessed with version 8 of the TIC. The change affected the apertures assigned to individual targets and the calculations for crowding (CROWDSAP) and flux fraction (FLUXFRAC), and as such the physical properties of TCEs derived from stellar parameters.
Timestamps update: Timestamps were updated to account for previous drift errors and electronic effects. All data from Sectors 1–36 are now registered to a consistent time system.
New data flags: All flags are now consistent with those described in DRN30.
Threshold Crossing Event issues: The planet search of the reprocessed light curves produced a different set of TCEs from the original processed data. There is a high degree of overlap, but not every TCE from previous data releases was recovered. To differentiate between the initial release and this reprocessed data a "pipeline instance number" is included in the filenames of the dv-timeseries, dv-reports, ad dv-result xml files. Larger pin numbers indicate later versions of the software were used to produce the data products. The DR number is also included as a keyword in the export product headers (DATA_REL).
× Sector 2 was reprocessed in May 2021, updating the background correction, manual exclude flags, timestamps, and input catalog. For more deatil please see the Reprocessing Information table below.

Issue Description
Scattered light: In Sector 2, the main stray light features to be aware of are:

The upturns at the end of each orbit are caused by the Earth rising above the sunshade, which reaches a minimum of ∼50 degrees from the center of Camera 1. The Earth’s daily rotation is evident in the background level.

The lower level rise in the first orbit of Camera 1 (days 4–9) is caused by the Moon moving within 30 degrees of the camera boresight.

Issue Description
Spacecraft pointing: During sector 3 there were several experiments conducted on the attitude control system (ACS) to improve pointing stability. Tests were conducted during the perigee passages after orbits 12, 13 and 14, as well as the first 3 days of orbit 13 and the last 3 days of orbit 14. During these times, the ACS feedback loop was altered and the calibration parameters tuned. The jitter profile during these times differs substantially from the normal data collection mode, which used the same ACS configuration as in Sectors 1 and 2. Imaging and light curve data during these tests is provided for completeness, but has limited use for scientific applications. Valid data in the standard ACS configuration were collected between TJD 1385.8966 and 1395.4800 in orbit 13 and between TJD 1396.6050 and 1406.2925 in orbit 14, spanning ∼20.4 days of useful observations.
Scattered light: In Sector 3, the main stray light feature is caused by the Earth rising above the sunshade near the end of each orbit, resulting in an enhancement of the stray light over parts of each camera’s FOV.
Timing precision and accuracy: The clock kernel used to process Sector 3 data has a slight error, resulting from extrapolation of timing measurements made during Sector 1. The reported TJD values in all data products are therefore offset by ∼1.2 seconds at the end of orbit 14 (2018-10-17 UTC).

Issue Description
Incorrect guide star table An incorrect table was into the DHU at the beginning of Sector 4. The spacecraft pointing was offset by ∼4 arc-seconds from where it would have pointed had the correct guide star table been loaded. Thus, once the correct guide star table was loaded (TJD 1413.26), the spacecraft pointing shifted by ∼4 arc-seconds.
Instrument reset: At TJD 1418.54, an interruption in communications between the instrument and space- craft occurred, resulting in an instrument turn-off until TJD 1421.21. No data or telemetry were collected during this period. After the instrument anomaly the heaters were turned on , increasing the camera temperature by ∼ 20◦ to approximately −67◦ C. Once the camera power was restored, the heaters were turned off and the camera temperatures returned to nominal within three days. The temperature increase caused changes in the camera focal plane scale and mean black levels of individual CCD channels. The mean black levels are calibrated out in the SPOC pipeline.
Spacecraft pointing: Sector 4 was the first set of science observations with an improved Attitude Control System (ACS) algorithm. The new ACS mode displays significantly lower pointing jitter than the previous configuration.
Scattered light: In Sector 4, the main stray light feature are caused by the Earth rising above the sunshade at the end of each orbit. The Earth reaches a minimum of 35 degrees from the center of Camera 1, and strong glints appear between TJD 1422.2297 and 1423.5020 (orbit 15) and between TJD 1436.1047 and 1436.8353 (orbit 16).
Timing precision and accuracy: The clock kernel used to process Sector 4 data has a slight error, resulting from extrapolation of timing measurements made during Sector 1. The reported TJD values in all data products are therefore offset by ∼1.6 seconds at the end of orbit 16 (2018-11-14 UTC).

Issue Description
Guiding:

The use of Camera 1 in attitude control was disabled for the last ∼ 0.5 days of orbit 18 (2018-12-11 UTC, cadence #170269) due to strong scattered light signals, and data taken with Camera 1 during this period were excluded from the pipeline analysis.

Space craft pointing: At the end of orbit 18, the Earth was < 35◦ from the boresight of Camera 1. At these low angles, the level of scattered light is too high for meaningful guide star centroids to be measured - see Guiding issue above. Disabling Camera 1 guiding near the end of the Sector caused a brief impulse in pointing, which settled out within minutes.
Scattered light: In Sector 5, the main stray light features are caused by the Earth rising above the sunshade at the end of each orbit, and strong glints appear during these times. The Earth moves quite close to the boresight of Camera 1 at the end of orbit 18.
TJD Calculation The clock kernel used to calculate TJD in Sector 5 used ranging data collected only through late August, 2018; as a result, the extrapolation to Sector 5 times is slightly off. The error between true and calculated times grew linearly with time since August 2018, so that the calculated TJD values in all data products are offset from the correct values by ∼1.7 seconds at the end of orbit 18 (2018-12-11 UTC). See pg. 7 of the DRN for more information.
Big Updates! Starting with Sector 5 processing, the SPOC pipeline 1-D Black correction has been changed to a two-component model from the polynomial fit that had been used prior. The two components include: a time-varying correction and a static row-by- row correction. To learn more about this see pg. 8 and 9 of the DRN.

Data collection: The first ∼3 days (start 2018-12-15 UTC) of orbit 19 were used to collect calibration data for measuring the pixel-response function of the cameras under the improved pointing system.
Scattered light: In Sector 6, the main stray light features are caused by the Earth rising above the sunshade at the end of orbit 19, which continues through the start of orbit 20.

Issue Description
Scattered light: In Sector 7, the main stray light features are caused by the Earth and Moon rising above the sunshade at the end of orbit 21, which continues through the start of orbit 22.
Back level residuals: Some channels show a small non-zero residual in the mean black level after calibration that is either static (e.g., camera 3, CCD 2, output D) or slowly time varying (e.g., camera 4, CCD 1, all outputs and camera 4, CCD 3, all outputs). The level of these residuals is minor i.e., ∼ 1e-3 ADU/read and the timescale of variation is of order 5–10 days. These residuals are thought to be caused by the jitter of bright stars on the specific CCD slices, and therefore it is a persistent effect in the rest of the sectors. The impact of these residuals on scientific output is likely negligible. However, the Sector 7 data were calibrated using the updated 1-D black method, from which we do not expect such time-varying residuals.
Big Updates! As of Sector 7, the spacecraft clock kernel has been updated. The estimated accuracy of the TJD values in all products associated with this data release is 50 ms.

Issue Description
Instrument reset: At TJD 1531.74, an interruption in communications between the instrument and spacecraft occurred, resulting in an instrument turn-off until TJD 1535.00. No data or telemetry were collected during this period. After the instrument anomaly the heaters were turned on, increasing the camera temperature by ∼ 20◦ to approximately −67◦ C. Once the camera power was restored, the heaters were turned off and the camera temperatures returned to nominal within three days. The temperature increase caused changes in the camera focal plane scale and mean black levels of individual CCD channels. The mean black levels are calibrated out in the SPOC pipeline. Changes in focal plane temperature cause changes in the raw photometry, but the PDC systematic error-correction algorithm removes this effect for most targets
Guiding:

The use of Camera 1 in attitude control was disabled at the start of both orbits due to strong scattered light signals. Camera 1 guiding was enabled in orbit 23 on 2019-02-02 UTC (Cadence # 208757), and orbit 24 on 2019-02-15 UTC (Cadence # 218154)

Space craft pointing: At the start of each orbit, the Earth was close to the boresight of Camera 1, and the level of scattered light was too high for meaningful guide star centroids to be measured. Guiding with Camera 1 was therefore disabled at these times. When Camera 1 guiding was re-enabled, the spacecraft attitude shifted by a small amount, about 1 arc-second (0.05 pixels). These times are marked with Attitude Tweak flags in the data products.
Scattered light: In Sector 8, the main stray light features are caused by the Earth at the start of each orbit, and the Moon in Camera 1 towards the start of orbit 24.

The algorithm in the CAL module that removes the 1D bias from raw pixel data was changed. The 1D bias estimate is now split into two components, a time-dependent scalar correction and a static row-dependent correction.

Big Updates: The algorithm in the CAL module that removes the 1D bias from raw pixel data was changed. The 1D bias estimate is now split into two components, a time-dependent scalar correction and a static row-dependent correction.

× Sector 9 was reprocessed in May 2021, updating the background correction, manual exclude flags, timestamps, and input catalog. For more deatil please see the Reprocessing Information table below.

Big Updates!

In sector 10, a new linearity model is used in pixel calibration. The differences between new and old linearity model are quite small over the majority of the dynamic range of the CCDs, rising to ∼ 1 − 2% near pixel saturation. This new linearity model will be applied to all sector data from Sector 10 on, and it will be applied to data from Sectors 1-9 when those data are reprocessed.

Issue Description
Spacecraft pointing:

Due to scattered light from the Earth Camera 1 was disabled and Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in all of orbit 31. This configuration causes the apparent pointing of Cameras 1, 2 and 3 to drift by larger amounts than in other sectors due to differential velocity aberration. The amplitude of the drift depends on each camera, and has a maximum value of 3 arc-seconds (0.14 pixels) in Camera 1 from the beginning to end of orbit 31. In orbit 32, both Camera 1 and Camera 4 were used for guiding for the entire duration of the orbit.

Scattered light: In Sector 12, the main stray light features are caused by the Earth and Moon at the start of each orbit.

Issue Description
Star tracker anomaly:

There was a single upset in the star trackers on the spacecraft bus. This resulted in a complicated interaction between the instrument quaternions and attitude control system. This interaction caused the spacecraft to fall out of fine pointing for approximately 1.25 hours from TJD 1665.2983 to 1665.350. During this time, the spacecraft exhibited increased pointing jitter - see page 3 of the DRN for more information.

Spacecraft pointing:

Issue Description
Spacecraft pointing: This is the first sector of the northern ecliptic hemisphere survey. For northern pointings, scattered light from the Earth and Moon is a more persistent issue for Camera 1 and Camera 2 than for southern pointings. For this reason, the spacecraft pointing was set at +85 degrees in ecliptic latitude, so that Camera 2 and Camera 3 straddle the ecliptic pole

Camera 1 still suffers from strong scattered light signals, and so guiding was disabled in Camera 1 for both orbits 35 and 36. Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in all of orbits 35 and 36.
Scattered light: In Sector 14, the Earth is above the sunshade for almost the entire sector, and the backgrounds are somewhat higher for longer periods of time than in other sectors. The 24 hour rotation period of the Earth and several harmonics thereof are also visible as oscillations in the background for most of both orbits. Finally, the Earth passes close to Camera 1 towards the last quarter of each orbit and saturates the detectors—these times were excluded with CCD-specific “Scattered Light” flags.
Big Updates! Sector 14 is the first northern ecliptic hemisphere pointing.

This is first sector to make use of TIC 8, which is based on Gaia DR2 astrometry and photometry, and uses Gaia DR2 parallaxes to inform stellar parameters details are provided by Stassun et al (2019) and the TIC release notes.

The spacecraft is pointed to a higher ecliptic latitude (+85 degrees rather than +54 degrees) to mitigate issues with scattered light in Camera 1 and Camera 2.

Sector 14 processing is the first to make use of an updated SPOC data processing pipeline, SPOC Release 4.0

It is the first to make use of CCD-specific Data Anomaly Flags that mark cadences excluded due to high levels of scattered light. The flags are referred to as “Scattered Light” flags and marked with bit 13, value 4096 - see section 2 of the DRN.

The algorithm in the TPS module for searching for transiting planets was changed. An initial run of TPS is now used to identify problematic epochs that are assigned ”deemphasis weights” in the final run of TPS.

Reprocessing Information: DRN30

The data products of sectors 14 to 19 were generated using version 4.0 of the science processing pipeline and conform to the final set of data anomaly flags. A detailed description of the changes in the data products can be found in DRN30, but a summary is provided here.
Update Description
Timestamps: For 2 minute cadence and FFI data the timestamps were made more accurate. The differences between reprocessed data and previous data releases are less than 2.0 seconds in all cases.
Photometric apertures: The apertures were increased in size for targets with Tmag less than 11.
Data Anomaly Flags: Three new flags were added to mitigate the effects of scattered light;

- Cadences with strong scattered light signals or saturation effects that corrupt the calibration data are flagged and removed from analysis.

- Scattered light data anomaly flags are customized for each target, and flagged automatically based on the local background level.

- Cadences with insufficient targets to derive cotrending basis vectors are flagged and the PDCSAP FLUX light curves are set to NULL at these times

The modifications to the data anomaly flags also changed the cotrended light curves produced by PDC. The changes also result in new cotrending basis vectors for each CCD in each sector. The scattered light flags are now only applied to the PDCSAP FLUX light curves.
Threshold Corssing Event issue: The planet search of the reprocessed light curves produced a different set of TCEs from the original processed data. Although there is a high degree of overlap between the original and reprocessed data (∼83% of targets produced TCEs in common), new TCEs were produced and not every TCE from previous data releases was recovered.
× Sector 15 was reprocessed in September 2020, updating timestamps, photometric apertures, data anomaly flags, and threshold crossing events. For more deatil please see the Reprocessing Information table below.
× Warning for Sector 15: A single upset event in the star trackers caused the spacecraft to fall out of fine pointing in orbit 38. The issue lasts for 5 minutes at TJD 1725.93651 (cadences 358907, 358908, and 358909).

Star tracker anomaly: A single upset event in the star trackers caused the spacecraft to fall out of fine pointing in orbit 38. The issue lasts for 5 minutes at TJD 1725.93651 (cadences 358907, 358908, and 358909).
Spacecraft pointing: As in Sector 14, the pointing in Sector 15 was set at +85 degrees in ecliptic latitude, so that Camera 2 and Camera 3 straddle the ecliptic pole. Camera 1 still suffers from strong scattered light signals, and so guiding was disabled in Camera 1 for both orbits 37 and 38. Camera 4 alone was used for guiding during this sector.
Scattered light: In Sector 15, the Earth is above the sunshade for almost the entire sector. The 24 hour rotation period of the Earth and several harmonics thereof are visible as oscillations in the background for most of both orbits. Finally, the Earth passes close to Camera 1 towards the last quarter of each orbit and saturates the detectors—these times were excluded with CCD-specific “Scattered Light” flags.

Data Anomaly Flags: Three new flags were added to mitigate the effects of scattered light;

× Sector 16 was reprocessed in September 2020, updating timestamps, photometric apertures, data anomaly flags, and threshold crossing events. For more deatil please see the Reprocessing Information table below.

Issue Description
Instrument shutdown: The spacecraft passed through the shadow of the Earth at the start of orbit 43. During this time, the instrument was turned off and no data were collected for 6.2 hours between TJD 1791.1115 and 1791.3699. The thermal state of the spacecraft changed during this time, and trends in the raw photometry and target positions are apparent after data collection resumed. However, the pipeline effectively removes these trends in the PDC light curves.
Spacecraft pointing: Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in orbit 43, and both Camera 1 and Camera 4 were used for guiding in orbit 44.
Scattered light: In Sector 18, the Moon and Earth move close enough to the field of view of Camera 1 at the end of orbit 43 to briefly saturate the detector.
Big Updates! The FFI timestamps for Sector 18 are incorrect. The readouts of the four cameras are staggered by 0.5 seconds in the following order: Camera 1 (0 second offset), Camera 3 (0.5 second offset), Camera 4 (1.0 second offset), and Camera 2 (1.5 second offset). Although these offsets are correctly incorporated into the timestamps in the target pixel files and light curves, the FFI time stamps are not corrected for the staggered readout. For Sector 1 through Sector 18, the offsets for each camera can be added to the TSTART and TSTOP header values in the FFIs to correct the issue.

In addition, the TSTOP header values in the target pixel files, light curve files, and FFIs are overestimated by 20 ms, and the TIME column of the target pixel files and light curve files are overestimated by 10 ms.

Instrument reset: An instrument reset occurred in orbit 48—no data were collected for two minutes between TJD 1865.49753 and 1865.50030
Spacecraft pointing: Camera 1 and Camera 4 were both used for guiding in orbit 47; Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in orbit 48.
Scattered light: In Sector 20, the Moon passes through the field of view of Camera 1 at the start of orbit 48, saturating the detectors. In Sector 20, new data anomaly flags were added to characterize the different ways that the scattered light can affect the data - see section 2 of the DRN
Big Updates! In Sector 20, the the FFI timestamps have been adjusted for the 0.5 second staggered readouts of the four cameras and the 0.02 second staggered readouts for individual CCDs within a camera.

The assigned timestamps of the previously released data products are too large by 2 seconds. The issue was caused by an off-by-one error in ground system software that identifies the timestamps of individual two second exposures. The Sector 20 data products have been updated and have accurate timestamps

The start times of integrations for every 2 minute and 30 minute cadence were shifted forward by 31 milliseconds, and the end times were shifted forward by 11 milliseconds. These offsets correct for effects in the focal plane electronics that were not accounted for in previous data releases.

Until sectors 1-19 are re-processed, the adjustments mentioned above should be applied to the FFI image headers.

Two-minute data products report the TJD at mid-exposure, and so should be corrected by adding 21 milliseconds to the timestamps.

Note that the correction only applies to the timestamps themselves.

In Sector 20, the photometric apertures for targets with Tmag < 11 were slightly increased. This change most noticeably affects the light curves of saturated stars, which had higher flux losses during periods of increased pointing jitter using the smaller apertures.

× Warning for Sector 21: The FFI timestamps have been adjusted by ~0.5 seconds due to staggered readouts.

Scattered light: In Sector 21, the Moon passes through the field of view of Camera 1 at the start of orbit 50, saturating the detectors. A strong glint also appears in Camera 2 during this time.
Big Update! In Sector 21, the the FFI timestamps have been adjusted for the 0.5 second staggered readouts of the four cameras and the 0.02 second staggered readouts for individual CCDs within a camera. TSTART and TSTOP in the FFIs of previous sectors need to be adjusted for the readout offsets of each camera—see DRN 25 for additional details.

Scattered light: In Sector 22, the Earth is a significant source of scattered light at the start of both orbits. The Moon also passes through the field of view of Camera 1 at the start of orbit 52, saturating the detectors Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in orbit 52.
Watchdog Resets:

The instrument computer unexpectedly hung, most likely due to space radiation induced errors in the computer processor or memory, resulting in a quick reboot of the computer.

There were three watchdog timer resets in Sector 22: on 2/29/20, 3/3/20, and 3/12/20.

Besides introducing short gaps in the 2m cadence data, these resets resulted in the loss a total of four FFI cadences.

Two 2-minute cadences are missing from TJD 1909.46004 to 1909.4642 (2/29/20), from TJD 1911.9267 to 1911.9309 (3/3/20), and from 1921.0560 to 1921.0602 (3/12/20).

Big Update!

The reported times for previous data products are too large by 2 seconds. This issue has been fixed for Sector 22 data products, which have updated and accurate timestamps.

Timestamps from previous sectors can be corrected by subtracting 2 seconds. Future data releases will include reprocessed data with corrected timestamps.

The start times of integrations for every 2 minute and 30 minute cadence have been shifted forward by 31 milliseconds, and the end times have been shifted forward by 11 milliseconds.

These offsets correct for effects in the focal plane electronics that were not accounted for in previous data releases. Until data is re-processed the times must be adjusted by adding correct values to headers.

Two-minute data products report the TJD at mid-exposure, and so should be corrected by adding 21 milliseconds to the timestamps.

Note that the correction only applies to the timestamps themselves; the reported exposure times in data product headers and flux values (electrons per second) are correct.

Instrument issues: The spacecraft passed through the shadow of Earth from approximately TJD 1940.38 – 1940.48. The instrument was not turned off, and other than the instrument heaters turning on resulting in a minor pointing offset, there is no indication that science quality was affected.
Spacecraft pointing: In orbit 1 of Sector 23, anomalously high pointing jitter was observed for about 1.5 days before the momentum dump starting at ∼ TJD 1936.15. The peak-to-peak amplitude of the jitter is less than 1.5 arcseconds on 2 minute timescales.
Scattered light: Camera 1 suffered from strong scattered light signals at the beginning of orbit 53 and orbit 54, and so Camera 4 alone was used for guiding during this sector. Spacecraft pointing:

The pointing in Sector 26 was set at +85 degrees in ecliptic latitude so that Camera 2 and Camera 3 straddle the ecliptic pole.

Camera 1 suffered from strong scattered light signals at the midpoint of orbit 59 and orbit 60, and so Camera 4 alone was used for guiding during this sector.

Scattered light: In Sector 26, the Earth is a significant source of scattered light throughout both orbits.
Big Updates! The TESS spacecraft configuration file was updated from version ‘0187’ to ‘0188’ between orbit 59 and 60. The SPOC data products include this 4 digit identification code near the end of the filename. Therefore the FFIs from orbit 59 have a different 4 digit identification number than those from orbit 60.
× Warning for Sector 27 (September 2020): This is the first data release for the extended mission. Key changes have occurred including the collection of 10-min FFI data instead of 30-min, and 20-second target pixel files.
  • The background correction was updated for the extended mission, with the new method providing improved results for fainter and crowded stars.
  • For targets observed in both Year 1 and Year 3, Year 3 processing was done using TIC 8.1 while TIC 7 was used for Year 1 processing; this may result in differences in results for certain targets.

Spacecraft pointing: Year 3 is a re-observation of the southern ecliptic hemisphere, which will take place over 13 sectors. The pointing strategy is the same as for Year 1, except the locations of Sectors 27–39 are offset in ecliptic longitude with respect to Sectors 1–13. All sectors in Year 3 are planned for a spacecraft pointing of −54 degrees in ecliptic latitude.
Scattered light: In Sector 27, the Earth is a significant source of scattered light throughout both orbits.

Big Updates!

This is the first data release for the extended mission

FFI data is collected every 10 min, rather than 30.

Selected pixel stamps are collected at a 20-sec cadence.

Data products for the 20 second mode have the keyword "fast" in the file names.

For 20-second data, only target pixel files, light curve files, collateral pixel files, and co-trending basis vectors (CBVs) were produced.

As usual cosmic rays were mitigated in the 2-minute cadence data and 10-minute FFIs by an algorithm running on the instrument firmware - see DRN pg. 8, for more info. Note however, that in the new 20-second pixel data cosmic rays were identified and removed in the pipeline, and that they can be restored in the pixel data and light curves if necessary.

The background correction employed throughout the primary mission was updated for the extended mission. The new method provides improved results for fainter and crowded stars. The correction is applied only to 2-min and 20-sec data. A full explanation of this correction is on pg. 10 of the DRN

For targets observed in both Year 1 and Year 3, Year 3 processing was done using TIC 8.1 while TIC 7 was used for Year 1 processing; this may result in different results for certain targets. Differences for some crowded and/or dim targets may also result from the background correction algorithm update (see below). Reprocessing of Year 1 data with TIC 8.1 and the latest codebase is underway at the SPOC, as of Fall 2020.

The algorithm in the CAL module that propagates uncertainty from the 2D bias model was changed. This uncertainty is a static term and is no longer applied to the pixel data or subsequent processing in the pipeline.

The algorithm in the PA module that estimates the sky background was changed. A scalar offset is now applied that forces the dimmest background-corrected pixels to values near zero, if those pixels were significantly negative.

Star tracker anomaly: At UTC 2020-11-16 10:37, there was a star tracker anomaly which led to the instrument being turned off. As a result, the data collection period in orbit 70 ended 2.08 days earlier than scheduled. The cameras were turned on and returned to normal operations on 2020-11-20, at the beginning of Sector 32.
Spacecraft pointing: Camera 1 suffered from strong scattered light signals at the end of orbit 69 and orbit 70, and so Camera 4 alone was used for guiding during this sector.
Scattered light: In Sector 31, the Moon introduces a strong glint in Camera 1 at the end of orbit 69, followed by scattered light signals in all cameras caused by the Earth. Due to the star tracker anomaly, no data were taken during periods of high scattered light in orbit 70.

Big update:

As of Sector 30, co-trending basis vector (CBV) files only include the first eight principal components for the Single Scale co-trending mode.

As a reminder, the pipeline only uses the first eight CBVs for co-trending, because subsequent CBVs are usually dominated by stochastic noise. When using CBVs beyond 8, users should check for excess noise being introduced into the detrended light curve

In Sectors 30–33, the values for CBVs 9–16 are set to 0.

Issue Description
Instrument issues: The spacecraft passed through the shadow of the Earth at the end of orbit 77. During this time, the instrument was turned off and no data were collected for 6.26 hours between TJD 2266.1091 and 2266.3700. The thermal state of the spacecraft changed during this time, and trends in the raw photometry and target positions are apparent after data collection resumed.
Spacecraft pointing: Approximately 40 minutes after the start of orbit 78, the spacecraft dropped out of Fine Pointing mode. For the next 3.44 days—between TJD 2268.5758 and 2272.0133—the spacecraft was in Coarse Pointing mode: in this mode, the spacecraft attitude drifts by about 1.5 pixels on timescales of 1 hour. Data continued to be collected while in Coarse Pointing: these data are flagged and removed from the PDCSAP FLUX light curves and transiting planet search. The FFIs are also flagged for Coarse Pointing. See the DRN Section 4.1 for more information about this.

Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in orbit 77 of Sector 35. Camera 1 and Camera 4 were both used for guiding in orbit 78.

Scattered light: In Sector 35, there is scattered light at the beginning of both orbits. For orbit 77, the scattered light briefly saturates Camera 1.

Issue Description
Spacecraft pointing: Sector 41 consists of observations of the northern ecliptic hemisphere. For northern pointings, scattered light from the Earth and Moon is a more persistent issue for Camera 1 and Camera 2 than for southern pointings. For this reason, the spacecraft pointing was set at +85 degrees in ecliptic latitude, so that Camera 2 and Camera 3 straddle the ecliptic pole. Both Cameras 1 and 4 were used for guiding in orbits 89 and 90 of Sector 41
Scattered light: In Sector 41, there is scattered light present for most of both orbits.

Spacecraft pointing: Sector 42 consists of observations of the ecliptic plane. For ecliptic pointings, the antisolar point is set towards the edge of Camera 1 (nearest Camera 2), and Cameras 2, 3, and 4 are aligned parallel to the ecliptic plane in the westward direction. Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in orbits 91 and 92 of Sector 42.
Scattered light: In Orbit 91, the Moon crosses the fields of view of all cameras (one at a time), and the Earth crosses the fields of view of Cameras 1 and 2. The Moon and the Earth saturate CCD detectors during these times. Outside of these times, strong scattered light signals are also present for most of Orbit 91 and the second half of Orbit 92.
Jupiter: Jupiter was near opposition during Sector 42, and landed in the field-of-view of Camera 1 for ∼7 days at the beginning of observations. Jupiter appears as a very bright object at the bottom of Camera 1, CCD 4, output channel A. It does not affect contrending for any targets on this CCD, although the smear correction for its associated columns is unreliable and targets close to Jupiter may have unreliable photometry for the first 7 days of observations.

Anomalous Effects: On Camera 3, CCD 1, ouput Channel D (columns greater than 1580), a small change to the start of frame ringing (cf. TESS Instrument Handbook, Section 6.8.2) was observed at row numbers ≲750. The change starts at TJD=2475.22927 in orbit 93, and is restricted to orbit 93. The amplitude is very small, only 0.27 electrons per second, and is usually corrected at the flux time series level during background subtraction for individual targets. However, the effect is not removed by the calibration model and is visible in raw/calibrated pixels in this region of the detector. See the DRN for more information.

Issue Description
Spacecraft pointing: Sector 46 consists of observations of the ecliptic plane, with the camera array aligned along the ecliptic and Camera 1 the westernmost of the four. Within the first 13 hours of orbit 99, Camera 4 alone was used for guiding. However, the Earth passed close enough to Camera 4 after this time that guiding was switched to Camera 1. The change in guiding was done in two steps. First, Camera 1 was enabled for guiding (concurrently with Camera 4) at TJD= 2552.088254 days. Then, Camera 4 was disabled for guiding 30 minutes later, at TJD= 2552.109087 days. At these two epochs, the spacecraft pointing shifted by a small amount, less than 1". The cadences for each data mode at these epochs are marked with an Attitude Tweak anomaly flag. In some cases, especially for saturated stars, the SAP FLUX light curves exhibit a step function at these times. Camera 1 alone was used for guiding in all of orbit 100
Scattered light: At the start of orbit 99, the Earth crosses through Cameras 1, 2, and 3, saturating the CCD detectors and/or causing strong glints. At the start of orbit 100, the Earth is in Camera 3 and saturates the detectors before moving close to the edge of Camera 4, while the Moon passes close to Camera 1. When the Earth or Moon are close to the camera fields of view, they cause strong glints and scattered light signals.

Issue Description
Data Collection: Data collection was paused for four hours in orbit 107 (between TJD 2672.2512 and 2672.4206) to test data downlink near spacecraft apogee, in preparation for operation changes scheduled for 2022 September.
Spacecraft pointing: Sector 50 consists of observations of the northern ecliptic hemisphere, with Camera 4 pointed near the north ecliptic pole. Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in the first half of orbit 107. After the data downlink at apogee, guiding with both Cameras 1 and 4 was enabled. This introduced a small shift in the spacecraft attitude in the second half of orbit 107. Some SAP FLUX light curves may show discontinuities before and after the data gap at these times. However, cotrending with PDC removes this offset in most cases. Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in all of orbit 108.
Scattered light: At the start of orbit 107, the Earth crosses through Cameras 1 and 2, saturating the CCD detectors and/or causing strong glints. At the start of orbit 108, the Earth and then the Moon moves through Camera 1, saturating the detectors and causing strong glints and scattered light signals in both Cameras 1 and 2.

Spacecraft pointing: Sector 51 consists of observations of the northern ecliptic hemisphere, with Camera 4 pointed near the north ecliptic pole. Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in both orbit 109 and orbit 110. .
Scattered light: The Earth is above the sunshade for extended periods of time in Sector 51, which results in high background levels and large gaps in the light curves. At the start of orbit 109 and orbit 110, the Earth crosses through Cameras 1 and 2, saturating the CCD detectors and/or causing strong glints. Throughout orbit 110, the Moon moves through Camera 1, saturating the detectors and causing strong glints and scattered light signals in both Cameras 1 and 2.

Issue Description
Big Update!: DR80 is the first data release of the second TESS extended mission, in which the FFI data collection interval has been reduced to 200 seconds. As in the primary mission and first extended mission, select pixel stamps were collected at 2-minute cadence and 20-second cadence. The number of targets in each data mode were adjusted: 13,000 targets were selected for 2-minute cadence observations, while all observable 20-second cadence targets were selected.
Spacecraft pointing: The pointing in Sector 56 was set at +55.5 in ecliptic latitude. As a result, Camera 4 was pointed near, but not exactly at the North Ecliptic Pole. The slight offset in target declination was introduced in the second Extended Mission to allow observations of the North Ecliptic Pole itself, which has fallen in the gaps between CCDs in the Prime Mission and first Extended Mission. Camera 1 and Camera 4 were used for guiding in both orbit 119 and 120, except for the second half of orbit 119 in which Camera 4 alone was used for guiding.
Scattered light: In Sector 56, the Moon introduces scattered light signals towards the second half of orbit 1.
Cosmic rays: Cosmic rays were mitigated in the 2-minute cadence data and 200-second FFIs by analgorithm running on the instrument firmware, in the same way as in the primary mission and first extended mission. For the 20-second cadence data, cosmic rays were identified and corrected in SPOC data processing, in the same way as the first extended mission. See DRN38 for details.

Configuration error: Due to a configuration error, in Sector 64 the Earth Point flags (data quality bit 4) were not set during the download periods from Orbit 135a to 135b and Orbit 136a to 136b. However, there is no data during this time and values in the target pixel files and light curves are set to NULL. A configuration change on the spacecraft at UTC 2023-04-20-06:05:04 required the instrument to pass over one FFI, one 2-minute cadence, and one 20-second. There is no data at this time—the missing cadence numbers are 789392 (FFI), 1315656 (2-minute), and 7893937 (20-second). The spacecraft dropped into coarse pointing during this configuration change, and settles into fine pointing over the next 40 seconds.

Issue Description
Anomalous detector voltage change: Beginning 2023-05-19 13:54 UTC (3084.1 TJD) and lasting 3.4 days, Camera 4, CCD 4 experienced an anomalous detector voltage change leading to a 70% gain and 0.5◦ temperature change. After a commanded instrument reset, data collection resumed at the nominal operating conditions with no lasting impact due to the anomaly. The anomaly did not affect spacecraft fine pointing. No other cameras or CCDs were affected.

Camera 4, CCD 4 FFI data during this time is not available on the MAST archive. FFI data for all other Cameras and CCDs were not impacted by the anomaly and are available on the MAST archive. For 2-min and 20-sec data products (TPF & LC), the Bad Calibration Exclude data quality flag (bit 15) is set for targets on Camera 4, CCD 4 during the 3.4-day anomaly, and these cadences were not used for PDC CBVs or the planet search in TPS and DV. Non-NULL pixel data present in TPFs for Camera 4, CCD 4 during the 3.4-day anomaly should be regarded as not calibrated and not suitable for scientific analysis using standard techniques.

Configuration Error: Due to a configuration error, the Earth Point flags in Sector 65 were not set during the download periods from Orbit 137a to 137b and Orbit 138a to 138b. However, there is no data during this time and values in the target pixel files and light curves are set to NULL. Off-nominal data downlink contacts resulted in the instrument solid state recorder filling to capacity. In this case, old data is maintained and new data is not recorded. Overall, 17 hours of observations at the end Orbit 138 were not recorded.
Spacecraft pointing: The pointing in Sector 65 was set at −55.5 degrees in ecliptic latitude. Camera 1 and Camera 4 were both used for guiding in Orbit 137a, 137b, and 138a, while Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in Orbit 138b.

Issue Description
Engineering Tests: Beginning 2023-06-28 17:44 UTC (3124.224 TJD) until the end of the sector (2.2 day duration), TESS performed engineering tests. Pointing performance was highly variable during the engineering tests. Data during the engineering test is available on MAST archive. The Manual Exclude data quality flag (bit 8) is set in the FFI, 2-min, and 20-sec data products during the engineering test. Data during the engineering test was excluded for analysis in PDC, TPS, and DV
Fine Pointing Mode Issue: At 2023-06-27 14:28 UTC (3123.105 TJD), for 1 minute, the spacecraft dropped out of Fine Pointing mode, and the spacecraft subsequently self-recovered back into Fine Pointing mode. Data continued to be collected while in Coarse Pointing: these data are flagged and removed from the PDCSAP FLUX light curves and transiting planet search. The FFIs are also flagged for Coarse Pointing.
Spacecraft pointing: The pointing in Sector 66 was set at −55.5 degrees in ecliptic latitude. Camera 1 and Camera 4 were both used for guiding in Orbit 139a and 140a, while Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in Orbit 139b and 140b. Pointing performance during the engineering testing (>3124.2 TJD) is highly variable, and the PDC, TPS, and DV modules ignored data beyond this timestamp; the manual exclude data quality flag (bit 8) also identifies data impacted by the engineering test.
Scattered light: In Sector 66, the Earth introduces scattered light signals at the end of each orbit, and the Moon strongly impacts Camera 1 at the end of Orbit 140.

Issue Description
Engineering Tests At the beginning of the first orbit TESS performed engineering tests lasting ∼2 days. Five intervals during this time (lasting a total of ∼ 6.3 hr) where the spacecraft pointing was subject to impulses have the Manual Exclude (bit 8) data quality flag set in the 2-min and 20-sec data products. Data with Manual Exclude data quality flag are excluded for analysis in PDC, TPS, and DV. The FFI data products have the Manual Exclude data quality flag set during the entire duration of the 2 day engineering test because the FFIs were processed before the impact of the spacecraft pointing behavior was analyzed. Users can recover valid FFI data in the intervals given in Table 1 of DRN 96, which are consistent with the periods of good data in the 2-min and 20-sec data products.
Data Gap: After the 2 day engineering test, data collection was paused for 36 min in order to reconfigure the spacecraft for normal operations. During the reconfiguration duration, no data quality flags are set; however, there are no data collected during this time. Values in the target pixel files and light curves are set to NULL during the reconfiguration
Corrupted Data: One FFI from Cameras 1 and 2 in orbit 145 was corrupted prior to downlink from the spacecraft and could not be recovered. The FFIINDEX number is 00849522, and no FFI file for Camera 1 and 2 was produced for this cadence. One FFI from Camera 1 in orbit 146 was corrupted prior to downlink from the spacecraft and could not be recovered. The FFIINDEX number is 00855522, and no FFI file for Camera 1 was produced for this cadence.
Spacecraft Pointing: The pointing in Sector 69 was set at −55.5 degrees in ecliptic latitude. During the 2 day engineering test, all cameras were used for guiding. After observations resumed, Camera 1 and Camera 4 were both used for guiding in Orbit 145a and 146a, while Camera 4 alone was used for guiding in Orbit 145b and 146b.
Scattered Light: In Sector 69 the Earth introduces scattered light signals at the end of each orbit.

Issue Description
Issues caused by Jupiter Jupiter enters the field of view of Camera 1 CCD 4 midway through orbit 149a (TJD ∼3237.82; Cadence Number 1447460). Jupiter’s appearance on the detector severely contaminates the trailing/leading black and smear calibration regions for the slice A readout columns (Columns 45 – 556), and the calibration of slice A is compromised for the entire sector. As a result of Jupiter’s light spilling into the calibration regions, the trailing/leading black levels fit along detector rows and the smear estimate fit along detector columns exhibit strong spatial gradients. Targets and FFI data on the Camera 1 CCD 4 slice A readout region are not correctly calibrated. The remaining readout slice B, C, D (columns 557 – 2092) regions for Camera 1 CCD 4 are not impacted by the calibration issues due to Jupiter. Data quality flags in the target and FFI data products for this region do not indicate when the calibration is compromised on slice A. Targets on this slice have unreliable photometry.
Spacecraft Pointing: The pointing in Sector 71 was set at -0.7 degrees in ecliptic latitude with the cameras aligned parallel to the ecliptic plane. Camera 1 and then Camera 4 were individually used for guiding in Orbits 149a and 149b, respectively. Camera 1 was used for guiding in Orbit 150a and Cameras 1 and 4 in 150b.
Scattered Light: In Sector 71, the Earth introduces scattered light signals at the beginning of each orbit, and the Moon strongly impacts all cameras at the end of Orbit 149 and beginning of Orbit 150.
